The 60th Anniversary Package and 427 Convertible made its first public debut at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale on Jan 21. #0001 was auctioned for charity with all proceeds benefiting the Drive to End Hunger food relief program.
“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final year for the current C6 generation,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Global Marketing and Strategy for Chevrolet. “We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate these milestones than bringing back one of the most-coveted combinations in the brand’s history – the Corvette convertible and a 427 cubic-inch engine.”
The Corvette 427 Convertible is a mix of Z06 and ZR1 and is the fastest and most-capable convertible in Corvette’s history.

Could this be it? Could this be the Mustang that can go toe-to-toe with the Corvette? We took a pre-production 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 and a 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport convertible on a journey to find out. Our plan was to drive from Houston to Austin, following a route we selected that consisted of seldom traveled back roads that were smooth, fast, curved and banked in all the right places. We had planned to depart Houston with enough daylight to really enjoy the back roads, however, plans changed and our departure time changed but our route had not. We would now be facing these smooth, fast, curved and banked roads in the dark – making this slightly more challenging than planned.
A production Mustang has never really been a rival to a production Corvette. Mustangs have always been heavier than and not nearly as focused on handling as the Corvette. That being said, the Corvette has always been priced significantly higher than the Mustang, so it is no surprise the Corvette has always outperformed the Mustang.

Check in for updates and photos from The Texas Mile, October 2010 event:
Friday’s top car mph was 241 – Lamborghini Gallardo.
15mph quartering headwind on Friday had cars running almost 20mph slower than they should have been.
The SW Toyota Supra used the whole runway, plus some, resulting in a broken car.
Saturday:
Underground Racing Gallardo went end over end at 235mph. Driver OK – Car not OK.

So, there we were on a Thursday night and each of us had already put in 8 – 9 hours at the office. I had invited a friend to deal with the task of testing a car – not just any car – but a crystal red, 6-speed, 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport coupe. As we stood around the car, sipping our Monster, taking stock of what options the car had, the question of what to do first came up. Like any half-hatched driving adventure plan, the decision was made to make the decision while driving – so we set off.
With the Passport 8500×50 installed, our route was simple and our plan even simpler. Get on the freeway and head south towards Houston – away from the scattered showers that earlier in the evening made the 436 hp Grand Sport an absolute hoot to slide around turns on some back roads.
This drive was to be more than just a joyride; we were looking to finally answer one of the questions we had spent many hours on the golf course arguing over, without ever making a solid conclusion.
You get one car, for one year, you can’t sell it to buy more cars and you daily drive it. Would you take an American sports car or an American sports sedan – and why?
