Another North American International Auto Show has passed. A car has set itself on fire on the show stand. An increasingly irrelevant automaker tried to prove that it is still relevant while other’s lived in the white noise press flutter during Detroit’s big day in January.

The true concept cars of NAIAS this year were at a level of mediocrity reserved for the US Lawn Bowling Championship and the Canadian Football League. It was the production ready cars that really shined.

The new CLS will premiere at the October 2-17, 2010 Paris motor show.

The 2012 CLS will have full LED headlamps, which are the world’s first to offer all of the dynamic light functions using LED technology – A total of 71 LED’s will be used in the headlamp clusters. (What 2012 car will not have LED’s incorporated into the front end?)

As you can see form these pictures, the new CLS will have the new flat nose look of the newer body Benz cars, new sharp lines and very pronounced wheel well arches.

While the rear of the new CLS has slightly different lines than the old CLS, it still manages to retain its awkward, just not right look. (We have noticed quad tail pipes and an AMG badge on the right side of the trunk lid go a long way toward righting that awkward shape.)
